An Evening At Stone Mountain Park

As you may remember, last year the kids and I went with many of the "Abercrombie women" for a fun-filled hike up Stone Mountain. Ever since then, I had been wanting us to go back [this time as a family of four] to explore more of the park and stay for the Laser Show!
We couldn't have picked a better day to go. It rained as we drove there, but stopped as soon as we pulled into our parking space. It stayed cool and overcast the entire time. Online, I bought the "After 4pm" ticket package, which worked perfectly for us. As soon as we got there David and Rachael were running everywhere wanting to see everything, even if they had no idea where they were going.

I love this one! It looks like they were trying to kick up their heels.

We went to The Lawn first and saw the big, famous carving and took a few pictures.

There are some rocks, well, maybe 'boulders' would be more accurate, that they wanted to climb on.

Then we went on a train ride all the way around the mountain! That was lots of fun.

On the train:

Next, much to my chagrin, we took the tram up the side of the mountain to the top. I am not a fan of heights OR being enclosed in a small space with lots of people I don't know. The tram had both. Thankfully, it's only a 3 minute ride one way. I was a nervous wreck both ways. David and Rachael? Loved it.

All of us at the top.

Since it had rained earlier in the day, there were lots of puddles for the kids to splash in, so they quickly took off their shoes.

And proceeded to have a wonderful time.

"This rock looks good enough for a nap, Daddy."
 That was short-lived.

We caught one of the last trams down the mountain. It was a bit scary as we went over the side...
The arrow is pointing to the lawn right in front of the carving. It looked so tiny from way up there.

A beautiful sunset from the tram.

I enjoyed the ride down a little bit more than the ride up, but this was still a very welcomed sight for my eyes [and nerves].

Our "After 4pm" tickets included unlimited popcorn, Cokes, and seats for the Laser Show. Pretty great deal!
While Ryan went to the car to get our picnic dinner, the kids enjoyed as much popcorn as they could stuff in their mouths and a bottle of Sprite each.

We choose to forgo the "seating" and go with the more traditional, the way Ryan and I remember viewing the Laser Show as children, blanket on the lawn.

After eating their dinner David and Rachael had the best time running around in the lawn while we waited for the show to start. I brought a whole bunch of different kinds of glow sticks to add to the fun.

They seemed to like the Laser Show, they didn't love it. Maybe they're still a little young. Rachael was afraid of the loud fireworks, so I would have to cover her ears for those.
But, all in all we had a WONDERFUL time and this gave us a chance to mark another thing off our Summer Bucket List!!

Oh! And did you notice we all have on our wrist band tickets? Well, technically Rachael didn't need one because of her age. But, the very sweet lady at the ticket booth saw how disappointed Rachael was when she didn't get one, so she printed one out just for her!!

Rachael loved it so much that she wore it for three whole days before it started to deteriorate off her wrist and she finally decided to take it off.
