Last month David and Rachael had the opportunity of a lifetime- to participate in a 5K with their 90 year old Great-Grandfather and 93 year old Great-Grandmother. How many people can say they have done that?!
Ryan's Granddaddy has walked in the Historical Roswell 5K for many years. Since he turned 90 earlier this year A LOT of his family and friends wanted to commemorate that milestone by participating in something he loves along side of him.
All of his "immediate" family that walked. There were even more extended family and friends too!
Rachael and David modeling the shirts I had made for all the great-grandchildren to wear.
It says, "My Great-Granddaddy is #1" and 'Historic Roswell 5K and October 11, 2014'
underneath. In years past the race officials have given Granddaddy bib
#1, so I thought the phrase on their shirts would be cute to match. But,
of course, it was my luck that he did NOT receive bib #1 this year. Oh
well he's always #1 in our books!
All of the Great-Grands present, except for Grant, with their Great-Grandfather. How cool is that?!
Grandmother is 93 years old and while she wasn't able to walk, she did get to participate by being pushed in a wheelchair the whole way [we took turns pushing].
So sweet.
We decided to "catch up" with the race as it went past. So, we watched the official start just down the road and then jumped in behind the serious racers.
Jacob, David, Rachael, and Jordan just loved hanging out with each other.
[it turns out that David was sitting in ants, hence the grimace. But he's trying his best to smile for Mama's picture.]
Watching the runners go by.
The four little ones pictured above really got into the racing spirit. They were really hard to keep up with!
How many chances do you get to run down the middle of downtown Roswell?
They weren't too fond of having to stop and wait for the rest of us.
We brought our wagon thinking David and Rachael would get tired of walking/running eventually. Rachael rode in it for about half a minute. David never got tired and even asked when we were going to run some more after we crossed the finish line. We may have two runners on our hands...
It was such a special day and an incredible opportunity for all of us, but especially David and Rachael. I hope they will have some memories of this day, but if not, that's why I have this blog! We are blessed to see what a life of eating right and taking care of yourself can amount to- being able to walk a 5K with your Great-Grandkids some day! What an accomplishment!
