David and Rachael's school is joined to a wonderful church and every year they invite the children who attend to sing a few songs in front of the congregation. You may remember David singing last year.
Well, this year they both got to sing! When they were called up, they held hands all the way to the front.
Unfortunately, they were so excited to get to the front to sing, they were pushed to the back of the group, which made it difficult for us to see him. We did tape their singing then, but I asked them to recreate their performance later so you could really hear and see them.
I'm in right, out right
Up right, down right
Happy all the time
I may never march in the infantry
Ride in the calvary
Shoot the artillery
I may never fly o'er the enemy
But I'm in the Lord's army, Yes Sir
I'm in the Lord's army, Yes Sir
I'm in the Lord's army, Yes Sir
He's got the whole world in His hands....
He's got the little bitty babies in His hands....
When the kids finished their songs at the church, they went with some of the teachers and staff to various rooms to play and do crafts until the service concluded. Ryan and I went to pick them up as soon as we could [we miss them when we're not together!]. We got Rachael first and were told that David was in the large worship room down the hall. When we got to the door and told the lady in charge of his group [the head of the children's ministry at the church] who we were picking up, she called David to the front. We waited, and waited, and waited. But, David didn't come out. So, I walked around the room looking for him. Perhaps he was too busy playing or talking with a friend to hear her, I thought. No. No, David. I described what my son looked like to the lady in charge and she said, "He was here. I watched him write his name on his craft project." Ummm, okay, that's good. But, WHERE is he now?! It was at that moment that both Ryan and I felt our hearts drop to our stomachs.
We all split up and the search was on. Once some of the teachers heard that David was missing, they too began scouring the church. I had to stay calm because I had Rachael on my hip asking,"Where's my David?". I didn't want to worry her, so I took lots of deep breathes and walked very quickly while telling her that we would find him soon. Ryan went back towards the school rooms where we picked Rachael up thinking David might have tried to find her. Also trying to think like David, I went to the last place he saw us- the sanctuary. I walked all over looking for my handsome, blonde headed boy. He wasn't there. Then I had to go out to the parking lot to see if he had gone to our car or, even though I couldn't stand to think of it, in case he had been struck by a car, or worst of all- kidnapped. I called him and called him while looking all over, but I didn't see him anywhere. All the while Rachael continues to ask where her brother is. So, I went back inside hoping and praying he had been found. I walked back through the sanctuary heading toward the Preschool and there was Ryan holding David!!!! I was so overcome with emotions I didn't know if I should scold him or kiss him.
It turns out that while we were picking up Rachael, David slipped out amid the rush of other parents picking up their children from the room he was in and went to find us in the sanctuary. When he saw that we weren't in there he tried to go back to the room he was in, but got lost. He found a lady and told her that he couldn't find his Mama and Daddy and needed help. [I was SO proud of him for doing that!]. While she was walking him back to the Preschool area David was seen by his teacher who took over from there. The teacher then found Ryan and handed David to him. He was scared and so very relieved to see his Daddy. Whew! It only lasted a few minutes, but it was terrifying. But, if you're child is going to get lost, a church is probably one of your safest bets. At least that's what I kept telling myself when we were searching high and low for him.
Once we found David and the dust settled, I did take some super cute pictures of them all dressed up outside of the church. *I have to note that Rachael is wearing the largest of the family dresses her Great-Aunt Angie made* They will all soon be passed down to her step-daughter, Katie, who's expecting a little girl!!
Rachael wanted me to take her picture in it before we left the house.
Because I can't just get a perfect picture right off the bat, I want to share the "bloopers" from the photo shoot first.
The "Super Models"
The "One Smiling the Other Looking Miserable"
The "Sweet, Consoling Sister"
The "Time to Act Like Goofballs" x3
And FINALLY the two "Best of the 75 Pictures I Took"
