Our Cat, Sally

That's right. That's right. You read the title correctly. WE, The Whitelaws, have a cat. And we ALL love her.

Her name is Sally.

And this is her story.

About a week and a half ago the kids and I were playing in the front yard. All of a sudden this precious 8 month old kitten, with no collar on, appears out of nowhere. We feed her some turkey and cheese and she plays with the kids all afternoon. When Ryan got home from work he was NOT thrilled, to say the least. [He is not a cat lover]. She came inside with us while I made dinner and the kids watched tv. She made herself right at home by laying on the couch with them.

We put her a blanket on the couch, and that quickly became her spot.

Much to the sadness of three out of four of us, we had to put her out at bedtime. She came over again the next day when I brought the kids home from school. They played until lunch was ready and all enjoyed a picnic outside together.

Soon our neighbor, Mr. Mike, informed us that our "stray" cat belonged to the neighbors on the other side of him. We were really sad to hear that news. Even with this news though, I continued to feed her and welcome her into our home. She is incredibly sweet and great with the kids. When we go for a bike ride in the neighborhood, she follows us. When I'm sitting in the yard watching the kids play, she's right there next to me. And the other day when we had the fire [that later turned wild], she was playing with Rachael while David worked on fueling the fire with sticks.

Exhausted from all the fun.

We learned her name was Sally as we passed one of the boys [about 10 years old] with whom she "lived".  He mumbled, "Hey Sally" as she was following us down the street.
She has now made her way into our home and our hearts, yes, even Ryan's. While we were gone over the weekend I worried about her even though I had put out a box with blankets in it for her to sleep in and plenty of food and water for her to eat and drink.
Mr. Mike soon informed me that Sally's owners were looking for someone to adopt her! Music to our ears!! I talked with Sally's "mom" and she confirmed that she needed to find a home for Sally. I tried to contain my excitement.
So, Sally officially became ours! I bought her a collar [silver with rhinestones] and her former owners gave us the litter box she was using at their house. Last night was the first night she got to sleep in the house and it went very well. We have worked out a great schedule that makes everyone happy. Sally eats breakfast with us first thing in the morning. Then when it's time for us to go, either to school or for a morning activity, she goes outside. She then comes in with us for lunch and takes a nap when the kids nap. Then it's back outside to play for us all! She usually eats some dinner while I'm making ours. Then she relaxes with Ryan and I on the couch after the kids are put to sleep and remains downstairs when we go to bed.

She has already acquired some nicknames from us like: Silly Sally and Sweet Sally.

I love the way the kids say her name too. Sow-we.

We are taking her to the vet tomorrow to get her a full check up and some shots since I was told she has never been.

If you know Ryan, you may be in shock that he has allowed a CAT, of all animals, into his house. Well, it didn't take him long to realize she is a sweetheart.

She has snuggled her way right into his heart.

Welcome to the family, Sally Whitelaw!

We felt the same way about cats. We have a inside & outside cat. No more bugs or nasty mice! I love this post!!!
