"She's finally two! Even though she thinks she's more like six", a lady at Rachael's school said as I passed her in the the hallway carrying Rachael's birthday party goodies for her class. Rachael is the youngest student in the entire school, but don't tell her. She's convinced she's just as big, if not bigger, than some of the Kindergartners.
Where to begin??
Rachael had an incredibly fun-filled time leading up to her birthday party and her actual birthday was just as great, but I will save that for later posts.
On Saturday, we celebrated our little girl with extended family and [so close they might as well be family] friends. The theme of the party was "You Are My Sunshine" - the song I've sung both babies since they were born and is now the only one Rachael requests at nap and bed times.
There was lots of preparing to do on Friday [and months before too!]. Luckily the kids had Friday off from school, so we spent the day cooking. Rachael really enjoyed helping make her cake.
The finished product. I was very happy with it. Of all the cakes I've made for the kids, it was by far the easiest to assemble.
Some of the decorations:
reclaimed barn wood sign that now hangs over Rachael's bed
teal metal "R" in the background, now decorates her room
I put lots of pictures from a recent "photo shoot" of her [and David] all around the party room. But, this one had to go in a special frame:
It's my favorite picture of Rachael at this age. It captures her perfectly. Her knee is all scratched up from playing outside, but she sure is loving [and looking gorgeous in] this handmade, one of a kind, frilly dress.
Examples of the center pieces:
Mason jars with straws next to the punch bowl. Straw tags read: Sippin' Sunshine.
I had other food, of course, but the fruit rainbow just may be a staple at every party from now on. So cute and so easy.
The birthday girl in her party dress seeing the decorations for the first time.
As soon as the guests arrived it was time to open presents!
A precious wooden tea set:
A fishing rod and gear from Ma and Big Daddy to represent her GA Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License which they gave her.
Half way through the present opening Rachael and I had a very serious conversation about her bossy behavior.
She quickly straightened up and returned to her sweet side.
The unbelievably beautiful and special Christmas dress made by her Great-Aunt Angie. Rachael and I can't wait for Christmastime!!
Look at that face when she peaked in her pink, personalized purse from Bing and Twinkle filled with girly items.
One happy girl after opening all of her gifts from so many generous people.
Time for cake!
But, first the singing. Rachael absolutely LOVED being the center of attention. Of course her big brother wanted to "help" her blow out her candles.
Blowing out her candles [the first time].
She asked for everyone to sing again so she could blow out her candles one more time. We all obliged. I mean, you only turn two once, right?
Pure happiness [yes, I mean both of us.]
Cake time!
After eating Rachael got right to playing with all the babies she received. I don't think a little girl can have too many baby dolls.
She takes caring for them very seriously.
She loves this baby carrier from her cousins.
I hope Rachael enjoyed her party. She's so special to us and I wanted her day to be special too.
We love you so much, Baby Girl. Happy 2nd Birthday!
