David's love of all things Superman started when he checkout a movie from the library filled with 12 original episodes of the tv series. He was mesmerized by the strength, power, and abilities of Superman. He was determined to be just like him. Since then he has told me that when Clark Kent say "This looks like a job for Superman." He just says "This looks like a job for ME!" And before he starts running he'll yell out, "Faster than a speeding bullet!"
So, when I asked him what kind of party he wanted, it came as no surprise that he chose SUPERMAN!
Of course from then on I scoured Pintrest for ideas and purchased everything I saw Superman related. [Also, a big thanks to the Easter Bunny for filling David's basket with tons of Superman things!]
I always love decorating for the kids' parties! So, first the decor, then the party.
I always love decorating for the kids' parties! So, first the decor, then the party.
One of my favorite decorations was this awesome 'Super David' burlap banner which hung over the buffet. I found the blank banner online and a friend of mine personalized it for me. It will soon be hanging in David's room.
Another one of my favorites was created by another friend of mine. [evidently I have some super talented friends.] She handmade that giant foam Superman cutout right behind David. How cool is that? It is also now a decoration in David's room.
David wanted to show off his muscles for me too.
Even Rachael was dressed for the party.
On the tables I had these centerpieces:
After seeing one on Pinterest I attempted to make three of these [one for each table]. I used a wooden candlestick [painted it yellow] and hot glued it to a wooden plague [painted it blue], hot glued a piece of red, glittery gauze material for the cape and then bedazzled the front to make it look a little more festive. The ones I made were cute, but not as cute as the ones online. But, still they were something different from the norm, so I liked them.
On each side of the entryway of the party room I used my favorite pictures of David dressed up as Superman. I attached them to a thick blue ribbon with varying sizes of clothes pins that I painted in yellow, red, and blue.
I always like to have a "party table" filled with lots of themed decorations and the cake.

Even Puppy was there with his cape on!
The food stayed with the party theme. We had:
[the other toppings were on the side]
And to drink:
Once everything was set out it was time for everyone to arrive! As the kids sat on the front step waiting, I caught this precious moment between Rachael and Cate.
First thing was first once everyone was there: PRESENTS!
Rachael was such a great helper and David was kind enough to let her be his assistant.
Once he opened all of his wonderful gifts, David wanted to test them out.
After all the toys had been thoroughly broken in, it was time for cake!
Leading up to David's birthday, Ryan had been trying to convince David to grow down instead of up and be 2 again. Clearly, David was not amused as Ryan tried one more time.
David was very excited about his cake!
Blowing out the candles.
Rachael wanted her picture with the cake before we cut into it.
And inside the cake...
David and Rachael enjoyed their cake and ice cream with Great-Grandmother and Granddaddy.
There was more playing after cake and ice cream time. Then it was time to say goodbye to everyone. These pictures warm my heart.
After we waved our farewells to everyone I got to have my special moments with my precious little boy.
See Baby Boy, I can still hold you!
And kiss you!
I can't tell you enough how much I love you, David Edward. What joy you have brought to me and Daddy! You are smart, kind, curious, and energetic. Your laugh is adorable, your maturity is astonishing, and your empathy towards others is remarkable for a little boy.
HAPPY 4th BIRTHDAY, my Super David!
